Who are they and why are they smiling!?

June 20th, 2008

They are smiling because a good deed always makes you feel good!  Sue Butler, on the right, is the Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Irvine Ranch chapter.  This generous group is a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through education for children.  They are proving their mission by donating new children’s books obtained through a drive at a local bookstore.  Sarah Stimson, on the left, is our Children’s Librarian.  She is about to break pose to keep kids from taking the books before the photo shoot ends!  These books will be treasured by our community!  Thank you, DAR!

To Kill a Mockingbird Book Discussion!

April 15th, 2008

Mockingbird

Most of us remember this book from English class or the unforgettable Gregory Peck in the classic movie version.  This is your opportunity to renew an aquaintance with this American treasure by attending a discussion of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 7-9pm.  The group is open to any interested adult reader!  This event is sponsored by the Big Read an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
