Jan 16 - Aruba Once a Dutch possession used for livestock grazing, gold mining, and oil refining, the 75-square-mile island of Aruba, off the coast of Venezuela, has become a popular travel destination. Aruba is a largely dry Caribbean island of cacti and aloe vera.
Too far south to be in the path of hurricanes, Aruba offers a year-round tourist season. Aruba's residents and visitors are blessed with clear skies, bright sunshine and cooling trade winds practically every day of the year. Wonderful weather is one of the many reasons for Aruba's highest return-visitor rate in the Caribbean. Visitors are also attracted to its white sandy beaches, water sports, Las Vegas-style casinos, and modern resort hotels with first class amenities.
Join Mr. Thomas Judson for an in-depth exploration of Aruba, a trendy vacation "haute spot." Judson traveled extensively in Latin America and the Caribbean during his 40-year career teaching World History. This recently retired former Marine is also a prize-winning photographer and accomplished travel lecturer. His education in International Relations and World History lends special insights to the cultural experience of traveling.
