…Among the props in the Laguna Playhouse's forthcoming production of "Social Security" is a highboy donated by none other than Bette Davis. The furniture piece, in the playhouse prop collection for years, was selected for the production before the film star's death.
"We needed something exactly right, and it was exactly right," said artistic director Douglas Rowe.
Davis' mother and sister were longtime residents of Laguna Beach, and Davis herself lived there for a short period in the late '50s.
Davis raised the first $25,000 to build the Moulton Theatre with a reading of works by Carl Sandburg in the Irvine Bowl. [1961, I believe]

Second from the left is my father, Walter Bob 'Knis' Knisley. He began lifeguarding at Huntington Beach in 1937 through his high school years, continuing after graduating from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and later serving in the Merchant Marine (obvious from the date of this picture)

Slight misidentification
If this photo was taken in 1966, the street was already named Garden Grove Blvd., the name change having taken place earlier.

According to OC historian, Jim Sleeper the hide was sent to the Smithsonian in 1908. It was catloged as No. 156494. However, when Mr. Sleeper made an inquiriy about the hide in 1975, they could not locate it.zenajn

Libraian, Mrs. Ethal Glenn. She was the first librarian when the branch opened in 1933. Library was first opened at a store/post office owned by the Glenns and moved to this converted garage in 1949.
