Be sure to visit Tustin’s children’s librarian, Mary Pezzetti, reading “If You Give a Pig a Pancake,” on Wednesday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Barnes and Noble in the Tustin Marketplace. Bring your camera, because the Pancake Pig will be making a guest appearance!
Summer Reading Celebration—Prizes for Adults, Teens, Kids
The Tustin Library thanks Barnes & Noble, Pat & Oscar’s, Z Pizza, Starbucks, and a host of other local businesses and patrons, including Curtain Call Dinner Theater and El Camino Pet Grooming, who have contributed incentives and prizes for our three summer reading celebrations: children, teens, and adults. The display cases in the Library are replete with a huge assortment of desirable gifts that may be won simply by reading the book you’ve been wanting to read all along! A complete list of our generous
sponsors will be posted soon.
Tawney Bubbles Kicks Off Summer Reading Celebration
Special programs for children and families will be offered during our Summer Reading Celebration. Staff will be dressing accordingly. Coming up on June 24 is Tawney Bubbles and her amazing balloons and staff dressed up like bubbles. Then a visit from Dr. Sue the Bug Lady with Library staff dressing as bees, butterflies, or spiders! We’ll be patriotic in red, white, and blue, although the Library will be closed for the 4th of July. You’ll see us looking like beach bums, cowboys and cowgirls, and strangely mismatched, like we’ve escaped from That 70’s Show. Please join us as we celebrate the fun of reading.
Adults Read, Play, Win!
Adult programs include MADGAB on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. and Wii Sport on Tuesday, July 1 at 7:00 p.m. Auditions for Unplugged will be forthcoming.
Teen Reading Fun
Teens join the Metamorphosis @ Your Library. Anime Night takes place on Thursday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. Mad Scientist and Operation Wardrobe programs will follow.
Teen Volunteer Squad
A cadre of teen volunteers will be helping out with the Library’s Summer Reading Celebration. Our goal is to get to know our readers, to help them find interesting and challenging new things to read, and to share their interest and excitement in their reading. We want to get to know you, and to provide for you the books and services you most want and need. This will be fun!

Tustin residents love their Library. At the annual Chili Cook-Off, most asked questions were, do you need volunteers, do you accept book donations, and when will the new Library be finished? Thanks for your interest. And here are some answers.
We’re revving up for our summer reading celebration and for more targeted programs for young children. Adult visitors have been giving us lots of ideas for programs they would enjoy. So, we now have a volunteer Volunteer Coordinator, Carole Blanscet. Whether you like short tasks like shelving, dusting, mending, or watering plants; enjoy driving for day care delivery or shut-in service; or like reading or storytelling with youngsters, we have a spot for you. We have the friendliest Friends and the most vivacious Volunteers. If you have the talent and time, we have the task.
We do accept book donations. Books need to be useable either in our collection or for resale through the Friends book store. Books that are mildewed, shabby, or outdated with no historic value meet the same sad end here they would meet at your home. For sharp and saleable donations, we’ll be happy to provide a tax receipt. Then the Library benefits by adding needed copies to our collection or by reaping the rewards from the Friends Book Store and Super Sales.
The new Library, growing daily in the lot next door, should be finished and open for service around this time next summer. Tustin residents are fortunate in that they have never been without library service during the creation of this grand new facility. For more information, the exterior view of the new building is on display in the Tustin Library lobby, and the City provides new brochures detailing the building’s progress from time to time.
We share your anticipation and excitement. Thanks for visiting us.
We do have just a few “Inaugural Edition” Chili Cook-off cookbooks available, FREE, for a $50 patron membership to the Friends of the Tustin Library, or $10 to support the Library. The FOTL is the support group that funds our free programs for patrons. Enjoy a pot of Cleopatra’s favorite chili, or try the one Rami Payne and her husband enjoy. Friends and staff contributed to this awesome array of recipes—not to be missed! Your donations help the Friends help the Library help you. Thanks for your support!

We were all about chile peppers and having fun with chili trivia. We had flashing chiles here. We had dazzling chiles there. We gotcha’ chiles everywhere.

Celebrating poetry in April was absolutey fun, contemplative, and creative; with our very own Sharon and Mary performing their hilarious skits of poems…

Even our Teens had their chance, three winners from the Teen Poetry Contest, an evening with Two Idiots Peddling Poetry and an open mic session for the brave…
March Madness was full of activities from the BIG READ’s “To Kill A Mockingbird” theme and accompanying movies, In-N-Out’s Food for Thought, and Readers’ Rally that sent our visitors across Orange County go get their Readers’ Rally passports stamped. We ended March with an awesome author-talk from a local World War II Bombardier, Mr. Charles Norm Stevens, who has recorded his experiences in his memoir, An Innocent At Polebrook: A Memoir of an Eighth Air Force Bombardier.
With all of that, we had our drawing for March Madness participators, and all those lucky winners came to collect their prizes, thanks to the Friends of the Tustin Library, and to our local ACORN NATURALIST for donating some very nice merchandise for our lucky winners!
