San Clemente Library is proud to support OCPL’s participation in the The Big Read during the months of March and April. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents the Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest. Libraries partner with community organizations and select of the NEA’s book choices for the community to read. OCPL has selected To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, an influential book that helped change the hearts and minds about the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s.
We have plans for an upcoming advanced class that will cover topics on blogging, rss, and photo management.

Men at Work
Iranian- English subtitles
A comedy about four old friends who, driving back from a failed ski trip, encounter a strange and enormous rock by the side of the road above a lake. The men?s frivolous attempt to dislodge the rock gradually disintegrates into a tale of betrayal, defeat and renewed hope. The heroes of the film are doctors, engineers and businessmen in the throes of mid-life crises. Their middle class problems and the absurd rock venture give rise to great humor.

San Clemente Library?s film night will have a special theme this January- teen night! Our Cinema Del Mar film night will showcase San Clemente?s finest young talent: ?Sierra Street? a film written, and directed by Brian Ivie, as well as ?Cool Stuff They Should Teach in School,? a book written by Kent and Kyle Healy. ?Sierra Street? is a set in 1955, in Turlock California. A group of boys form a detective agency called the Stray Cats, and forgo their summer fun in order to solve the mystery of Sierra. Kent and Kyle Healy?s book is aimed at teens and parents. Their mission is to arm young people around the world with the tools they need to create the life they deserve and to give parents valuable insight from young people, so they can become better parents and raise kids they are proud of. This event is open to all ages, and there is no charge for admission. In the spirit of the holidays, we do ask for one canned good donation per person. This donation will go to support local charities.

The story is set on the campus of a university in Tokyo. Students from the literature department’s film workshop are about to start shooting their movie “The Bored Murderer”, part of their course curriculum. Everyone is in a rush to prepare for the shoot, but the lead actor drops out suddenly, and the team is forced to search for a replacement at the last minute. The students’ and professors’ personal lives add further complications to the shoot. Everything comes to a head in an unexpected and tumultuous climax.
