Scope and Content
Collection Overview: Orange County Digital Stories began as part of the California of the Past Digital Stories Series, which collects personal narratives from California residents with the intent of preserving living memories from local community members and making these stories readily available to the public over the Internet. Over time, the project came to include additional stories which were not produced under the California of the Past grant, but which did pertain to historical Orange County.
Orange County Digital Stories is a collection short digital videos in which current residents of Orange County, California, share their life experiences through first hand narratives. Each story is presented as an online "mini-movie”, integrating audio and/or video recordings with digitized photographs. In some cases, the resulting story is produced from interview footage with the interviewer edited out for effect. The stories are intended to maintain and support local community identity by capturing and presenting the personal experiences of California residents as described in their own words.
Administrative History: Orange County Digital Stories were produced as part of California State Library's California of the Past digital storytelling pilot project which awarded grants to six California public libraries, each partnered with a local organization.
Orange County Digital Stories were created through a partnership between OC Public Libraries and the Historical Society of Laguna Woods from 2007 - 2010.
